Greentube Navigates Complex Regulations with Technology
The online gaming sector is on an impressive rise, with estimates suggesting that by 2027, there will be around 1.2 billion online gamers (Statista). This surge presents both enticing possibilities and thorny challenges for gaming companies. One firm actively seizing these opportunities is Greentube, which has ascended to become one of the largest online gaming developers in Europe. Renowned for its offerings, which range from classic slots to social casino games, Greentube caters to 25 million consumers and collaborates with 120 business partners globally.
Adopting Cloud Solutions for Better Compliance
However, operating in such a highly regulated environment is no simple feat. Greentube’s business hinges on real money, placing it in the crosshairs of numerous regulatory and data privacy laws. “The vast array of requirements, particularly around data privacy laws like GDPR, has a substantial impact on our IT infrastructure,” noted Branislav Dudic, team leader for IT Infrastructure. With regulations often dictating that player data be confined to specific geographic locations, these requirements evolve drastically across different countries, adding layers of complexity.
Enhanced Management and Operational Efficiency
As the company expanded into new, unique markets, their IT setup grew trickier to manage and scale effectively. Despite being a long-time user of VMware solutions, managing the diverse array of products proved challenging. Greentube sought a unified architecture to tackle regulatory challenges without escalating complexities. By implementing VMware Cloud Foundation, a private cloud solution from Broadcom, Greentube developed a consistent operating environment across its global infrastructure, optimising performance and compliance.
Fostering Development with Advanced Technologies
The introduction of VMware Cloud Foundation has allowed Greentube’s team to oversee multiple environments seamlessly from a single dashboard, streamlining management and operations. Dudic emphasised the significant benefits: “We now have one location to monitor numerous features—scaling, managing, and upgrading has never been so straightforward.” This consolidated management framework has been instrumental in helping Greentube comply swiftly with varying data sovereignty regulations while ensuring a secure infrastructure.
Strategic Growth for Future Expansion
Moreover, Greentube is leveraging VMware’s additional tools like vSphere Kubernetes Service to refine its game development process. By integrating VMware Tanzu into their Cloud Foundation, the development team benefits from increased efficiency in workflow and can swiftly publish games in the Kubernetes environment. Dudic shared that this rapid application delivery capability has met the needs of their customer base quickly. The future looks promising, with plans to fully integrate eleven global data centres into the VMware ecosystem, ensuring even greater operational simplicity going forward.
